Beach & Sun Indonesia

Your complete guide to Indonesia's beaches, islands, and tropical paradise

You're floating in crystal water off Gili Trawangan. A sea turtle glides past. No boat engines—the island banned motorized vehicles. Just bicycles, horse carts, and paradise.

Indonesia's 17,000 islands bring endless beaches. Bali's surf breaks and beach clubs. Gili Islands' snorkeling and white sand. Komodo's Pink Beach and manta rays. Raja Ampat's world-class diving in pristine waters. Lombok's uncrowded shores.

Water temperature: 27-29°C year-round. Dry season April-October best. Rainy season November-March still warm but afternoon storms. Peak crowds July-August.

Bali beaches—surf, party, or chill

Bali's beaches vary dramatically. Seminyak brings beach clubs, sun loungers, cocktails, sunset vibes. Canggu offers surf breaks, black sand, digital nomad cafes.

Uluwatu has world-class surf (experts only), dramatic cliffs, Kecak dance at sunset. Padang Padang is the "Eat Pray Love" beach—gorgeous, small, crowded.

Sanur (east coast) is calmer—family-friendly, shallow water, sunrise views. Nusa Dua brings resort beaches, manicured, safe swimming, more expensive.

For snorkeling, take fast boat to Nusa Penida or Nusa Lembongan. Crystal Bay, Manta Point (manta rays!), dramatic underwater cliffs.

Bali's beaches not Caribbean-perfect—some have trash issues, strong currents common. But surf, culture, and vibe make up for it.

Gili Islands—no cars, just paradise

Three tiny islands off Lombok. No motorized vehicles—bicycles and horse-drawn carts (cidomo) only. Surreal quiet.

Gili Trawangan (Gili T) is the party island. Beach bars, fire shows, mushroom shakes, young backpackers. Snorkeling with sea turtles right off shore.

Gili Meno is the quiet one. Couples, honeymoons, silence. Smallest island, most pristine beaches. Bird sanctuary, romantic vibes.

Gili Air sits between—some nightlife, not crazy. Good diving, family-friendly. Best of both worlds.

All three offer world-class snorkeling. Sea turtles everywhere. Rent mask and fins (50,000 IDR/$3) or take boat tour (200,000-350,000 IDR/$12-22).

Fast boat from Bali 1.5 hours (400,000-600,000 IDR/$25-38). Can be rough seas—take seasickness meds.

Komodo & Flores—pink beaches and dragons

Komodo National Park brings Pink Beach (actual pink sand from coral), world-class diving, manta rays, and Komodo dragons.

Access from Labuan Bajo (Flores). 3-day liveaboard boat trips standard (around $200-400 depending on boat quality). See dragons on Rinca or Komodo Island, snorkel multiple sites, sleep on boat.

Diving here is world-class—manta rays at Manta Point, coral gardens, strong currents (experienced divers only for some sites).

Pink Beach less impressive in person than photos (small, pink tint subtle) but snorkeling is excellent.

Fly from Bali to Labuan Bajo (1.5 hours, around $80-150). Book liveaboard ahead—fills up peak season (July-August).

Lombok—Bali without crowds

Lombok is Bali's quieter neighbor. Less developed, more authentic, fewer tourists.

Kuta Lombok (south coast) has stunning beaches—Tanjung Aan, Selong Belanak. Surf, white sand, not crowded. Different from crowded Kuta Bali.

Secret beaches: Mawun Beach, Seger Beach. Need scooter to reach, worth it. Empty, beautiful, local vibes.

Mt. Rinjani dominates Lombok—3-day volcano trek for fit hikers. Crater lake, summit sunrise. Challenging but epic.

Senggigi (west coast) is main tourist town—average beaches but good base for exploring. Restaurants, hotels, dive shops.

Fly Bali-Lombok 30min (around $40-80) or take fast boat to Gili Islands then onward to Lombok.
