Po River cycling path—flat, easy, 400km+ Milan to Venice. Self-guided multi-day. Budget-friendly adventure.
Water sports
Lake Garda windsurfing—consistent winds, warm water. Torbole/Malcesine best spots. Lessons €50-80, rentals €30-50/day. April-October.
Sardinia diving—clear water, marine reserves, wrecks. Costa Smeralda, Alghero areas. €50-80 per dive. May-October best visibility.
Amalfi Coast kayaking—paddle between towns, sea caves, hidden beaches. Half-day tours €60-100. Calmer water mornings.
Volcano adventures
Mount Etna—active volcano, Sicily. Cable car + 4x4 to summit craters €70-90. Hike lower slopes independently free. Lava fields, steam vents, moon landscape. Guides essential for active areas.
Stromboli—climb active volcano at night, see lava explosions. Guided only (safety), €25-35. Strenuous 5-6 hour roundtrip. Spectacular. Aeolian Islands.
Vesuvius—hike to crater rim from parking. 30min climb, €10. View bay, see into crater. Combine with Pompeii visit.
Amalfi Coast hiking
Path of the Gods (Sentiero degli Dei)—Positano to Praiano clifftop trail. 3-4 hours one-way, moderate, stunning views. Go early for light, avoid heat.
Valle delle Ferriere—inland valley, waterfalls, ruins. Amalfi starting point. Easier than Path of Gods. 3-4 hours return.
Cinque Terre trails—5 villages connected by coastal/mountain paths. Blue Trail (Via dell' Amore partially closed). Train option if tired. €7.50 day pass. Summer packed.

- 🚴 E-bikes make Tuscany hills manageable. No shame—locals use them. €50-70/day vs €40 regular bikes.
- 🌋 Volcano tours weather-dependent. Book but have flexibility. Etna summit closes if too active or windy.
- 🥾 Bring proper boots for hiking—rocky terrain, steep sections. Poles help. Weather changes quickly mountains.
