English Harbour — the romantic heart of Antigua

English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour form the island's most atmospheric anchorage: two adjacent bays separated by a narrow headland, ringed by forested hills, and home to Nelson's Dockyard — the only functioning Georgian naval dockyard in the world. The dockyard museum and restored buildings occupy the southern side; restaurants, bars, and marina facilities face the water. Sailing yachts are always at anchor. Private boat days — finding your own beach

The most romantic day in Antigua is a private boat to a reef or cove that larger group boats don't reach. Small operators based in English Harbour and Jolly Harbour run 4-5 hour private trips for two to four people: the captain knows where the turtles are feeding, which beach is empty at this time of year, and which reef has the best coral right now. You snorkel, swim, eat fresh pineapple on a deserted beach, and return when you want. No other passengers. No fixed schedule. This is the correct way to spend a day here.
