Where to Stay
Find your perfect accommodation in Trinidad & Tobago
Two islands. Two entirely different accommodation scenes.
Trinidad is a working country with a full economy—Port of Spain has proper business hotels, boutique guesthouses in Woodbrook, and elegant colonial-era properties near the Queen’s Park Savannah. The Hyatt Regency overlooks the Waterfront. The Kapok Hotel sits five minutes from the Savannah on St Clair Avenue. Neither is cheap, but both are good.
Tobago is smaller and more tourism-oriented. Crown Point has beach hotels within walking distance of Store Bay and Pigeon Point. Speyside on the northeast coast has the dive lodges. Charlotteville has the guesthouses for those who want to disappear completely. Choose your island carefully—and your base within it more carefully still.
📍 Best Places to Stay in Trinidad & Tobago
Trinidad and Tobago divides naturally into two separate accommodation choices. Trinidad is the larger island with city hotels, business facilities, and proximity to Carnival. Tobago is the beach-and-nature island with resorts, dive lodges, and boutique guesthouses. Most visitors split their trip between both islands.

↓🔄 Alternative Stays — Travel Differently
Save money, stay longer, and experience local culture. These are links to platforms where you can search if these options are available in Trinidad and Tobago. Availability varies—use the links below to check what’s offered here.
🏠 House Sitting
Stay for free in exchange for caring for someone’s home and pets. Works well in the residential suburbs of Port of Spain (St Clair, Maraval, Cascade) and in Tobago. Popular with UK and US expat home owners spending extended time abroad.
🏡 Home Swaps
Exchange your home with someone else’s. No money changes hands. Trinidad and Tobago listings exist on major platforms—particularly useful for Tobago beach houses.
🌿 Work Exchange
Work 20–25 hours per week in exchange for free accommodation and often meals. Eco-lodges, guesthouses, and small farms in the Arima Valley and Tobago use Workaway and WWOOF listings.
📅 Long-term Rentals
Monthly rates are significantly cheaper than nightly. Port of Spain apartments and Tobago beach cottages both available on monthly terms. Popular with remote workers and the Trinidad Carnival crowd arriving in January.
💰 Money-Saving Tips
- Book Carnival accommodation a year in advance: Port of Spain accommodation for Carnival week (Monday–Tuesday before Ash Wednesday) sells out 12 months ahead. Expect 3–4x normal rates during Carnival
- Stay in Woodbrook, not downtown: Woodbrook guesthouses offer better value than central Port of Spain hotels and are closer to Ariapita Avenue restaurants
- Crown Point beats Scarborough for Tobago: Crown Point puts you within walking distance of Store Bay and a 10-minute drive from Pigeon Point. Scarborough is the capital but has less beach access
- Self-catering in Tobago saves significantly: Apartment-style accommodation with a kitchen cuts food costs substantially—Trinidad and Tobago dining out is not cheap for visitors
- Compare platforms before booking: Prices vary between Booking.com, Airbnb, and direct hotel websites. Direct booking sometimes includes breakfast or airport transfers not shown on aggregators
