📱 Essential Travel Apps for Georgia

Your complete toolkit for Georgia travel

Save time, money, and stress in Georgia

Download these before you go. Georgia-specific apps plus essential travel tools for every trip.

🇬🇪 Georgia-Specific Apps (Download These First!)

Bolt

Essential

The main ride-hailing app in Tbilisi and major Georgian cities. Far more reliable than flagging taxis on the street. Price shown upfront in GEL, no haggling. Works in Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Batumi, and Rustavi.

💡 Always cheaper than street taxis—use Bolt by default

Open Bolt

Yandex Go

Essential

Alternative to Bolt, widely used across Georgia. Often has more drivers available in smaller cities. Good for late-night pickups when Bolt surges. Also works for food delivery in Tbilisi.

💡 Download both Bolt and Yandex Go—use whichever has lower prices

Open Yandex Go

Tbilisi Transport

Real-time bus and metro information for Tbilisi public transport. Shows bus arrivals, metro schedules, and route planning. Essential for budget travel around the capital. Buy metro card (rechargeable) from any metro station.

Open TTC info

Georgian National Tourism

Official Georgian tourism information—attractions, events, accommodation, and travel tips. Good starting point for planning routes beyond Tbilisi, particularly for remote mountain areas and wine region visits.

Open GNTA

✈️ Flight Search & Booking

Google Flights

Best overall flight search. Price tracking, flexible dates, and the cleanest interface. Use the calendar view to find the cheapest days to fly into Tbilisi (TBS) or Kutaisi (KUT).

Open Google Flights

Skyscanner

"Everywhere" search shows cheapest destinations from your home airport. Kutaisi airport (KUT) often has cheaper Wizz Air or Ryanair flights than Tbilisi—worth comparing both.

Open Skyscanner

Kiwi.com

Best for complex routes connecting Georgia to other Caucasus or Middle East destinations. Can combine airlines that don't normally work together. Good for onward travel to Armenia or Turkey.

Open Kiwi.com

Momondo

Compares results from multiple search engines. Sometimes finds deals the others miss. Always worth a second check before booking international flights.

Open Momondo
💡 PRO TIP: Compare Both Georgian Airports

Georgia has two international airports. Tbilisi TBS is the main hub—most convenient. Kutaisi KUT is 3 hours west but often €40-80 cheaper with budget airlines (Wizz Air, Ryanair). Marshrutka (shared minibus) connects Kutaisi airport to Tbilisi for around 15 GEL (€5).

🗺️ Navigation & Maps

Google Maps

Essential

Works well in cities. Download offline maps for Tbilisi, Kakheti, and Kazbegi before traveling—connectivity is unreliable in mountain areas. Shows marshrutka stops and taxi waiting areas.

💡 Download Kazbegi and Svaneti offline—no data in mountains

Open Google Maps

Maps.me

Essential

Detailed offline maps with hiking trails. Superior to Google Maps for Georgia's mountain trails (Kazbegi, Svaneti, Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park). Completely offline. Essential for trekking.

💡 Download Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Svaneti regions before leaving Tbilisi

Open Maps.me

Rome2Rio

Plans routes combining marshrutka, trains, taxis, and flights. Very useful for complex Georgian journeys—Tbilisi to Mestia involves flight or marshrutka connections that Rome2Rio maps clearly.

Open Rome2Rio

Komoot

Hiking and cycling route planner with turn-by-turn navigation. Great for Georgia's mountain trails—Kazbegi day hikes, Svaneti trekking routes, and Kakheti cycling. Community routes with tips from other hikers.

Airbnb

Strong selection in Tbilisi—apartments in the old town, near Rustaveli, and in Vera neighborhood. Guesthouses in mountain areas often listed here too. Good for longer stays with kitchen access.

Open Airbnb

Hostelworld

Tbilisi has an excellent hostel scene—social, centrally located, and very cheap. Rooms from €8-15/night. Great for meeting other travelers heading to Kazbegi or Kakheti. Highly rated options in Fabrika area.

Dayuse

Game-changer

Book hotel rooms just for the day to nap, shower, or recharge. Useful for early morning arrivals at Tbilisi airport before your proper accommodation is ready.

💬 Translation & Communication

Google Translate

Essential

Download Georgian language pack for offline use. Georgian script (Mkhedruli) is unique and unreadable without help—camera mode instantly translates menus and signs. Young Georgians speak English; older generations may not.

💡 Absolutely essential outside Tbilisi tourist areas

Open Google Translate

WhatsApp

Essential

Widely used across Georgia. Tour operators, guesthouses, and guides communicate via WhatsApp. Often the only way to coordinate last-minute bookings for mountain areas or private drivers.

🎒 On The Ground

Bounce

Store your luggage anywhere—cafes, hotels, shops. Perfect for those hours between hostel checkout and your Kazbegi marshrutka departure. Tbilisi coverage is good in tourist areas.

Open Bounce

PackPoint

Essential

Enter destination, dates, and activities—it builds a packing list based on weather. Georgia has extreme variation: beach weather in Batumi (summer), snow in Kazbegi (always), hot city days in Tbilisi. Pack for all three.

Open PackPoint

💡 App & Tech Tips for Georgia

  • WiFi coverage: Excellent in Tbilisi cafes, hotels, and restaurants. Patchy in mountain areas—don't rely on it in Kazbegi or Svaneti.
  • Mobile data SIM: Buy a Georgian SIM at Tbilisi Airport (Geocell, MagtiCom, Silknet). Around 20 GEL (€6-7) for 10-20GB—extraordinarily cheap. Insert on arrival.
  • ATMs: TBC Bank and Bank of Georgia ATMs are most reliable. Use machines in bank lobbies rather than standalone street machines. Visa/Mastercard widely accepted in Tbilisi, less so in rural areas.
  • Cash outside cities: Many guesthouses, market stalls, and rural restaurants are cash-only. Always carry GEL outside Tbilisi.
  • Mountain coverage: No phone signal on many Kazbegi and Svaneti trails. Download everything offline before you go. Inform your guesthouse of your hiking plans.
  • Power: Georgian sockets are European Type C/F. Bring adapter if from US/UK. Power cuts are rare in Tbilisi but possible in mountain areas during winter.
