Where to Stay

Find your perfect accommodation in Uzbekistan

The city is quiet. Your guesthouse is inside the old walls of Khiva — mud brick, carved wood, a courtyard open to the stars. Breakfast is flatbread, dried apricots, and green tea brought without asking.

Uzbekistan has two accommodation worlds. In the Silk Road cities — Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva — restored caravanserais and family guesthouses inside historic neighbourhoods give you the trip you came for. In Tashkent, modern hotels and apartments cater to business travellers and those using the capital as a hub.

Prices are low by European standards: a comfortable guesthouse in Bukhara runs $25–50/night, boutique hotels $60–120. Staying inside the old city walls in Khiva or a traditional courtyard house in Bukhara is almost always worth the premium over an out-of-town hotel.

📍 Best Places to Stay in Uzbekistan

The classic Silk Road circuit covers four cities. Where you stay within each city matters — a room inside Bukhara's old town is a completely different experience from a hotel on the modern outskirts. Prioritise staying in or close to the historic districts.

🏛️ Samarkand — Registan district

The Silk Road showpiece

Stay close to Registan Square for early morning and evening visits before crowds arrive. Guesthouses from $25/night, boutique hotels $70–150. Registan Palace Hotel has direct views. Search Samarkand hotels

🏛️ Bukhara — Old City

UNESCO medieval city — most atmospheric

Staying inside the old city is essential. Traditional courtyard guesthouses within walking distance of Poi-Kalyan and Lyabi-Khauz from $20/night. Many family-run, with home-cooked breakfast included. Search Bukhara hotels

🏰 Khiva — Inside Itchan Kala

The walled city — stay inside the walls

Khiva has hotels and guesthouses directly inside the UNESCO-listed walled city. After day-trippers leave, the atmosphere is magical. From $30/night. Booking inside the walls fills quickly in season. Search Khiva hotels

🏙️ Tashkent — City Centre

Modern capital — transport hub

Most travellers stay in Tashkent for one or two nights as a transit point. Hotels near the old city and Chorsu Bazaar give easier access to sights. Budget hostels from $10/night, mid-range $40–80. Search Tashkent hotels

🏔️ Kyzylkum Desert — Yurt Camps

Unique experience — nights under desert stars

Yurt camps between Bukhara and Khiva offer an unforgettable night in the desert with traditional food, camel rides, and star-filled skies. Most easily arranged through Bukhara guesthouses or tour operators. From $50/night all-inclusive.

🏑 Fergana Valley

Off the beaten track — silk and ceramics

Rishtan (ceramics), Margilan (silk), and Kokand (historical palace). Few foreign tourists, very local feel. Simple guesthouses from $15/night. Only accessible by air or road from Tashkent — no Afrosiyob train service. Search Fergana hotels

Choose Your Stay Style

💰 Money-Saving Tips

  • Book family guesthouses directly: Often cheaper than booking platforms, includes breakfast, and owners are invaluable sources of local knowledge
  • Stay inside old city districts: Saves taxi costs and makes early morning / late evening visits to sights possible on foot
  • Travel in shoulder season: April–early May and October bring cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and better guesthouse availability
  • Avoid peak dates: Nowruz (March 21) and national holidays see prices spike and accommodation fill weeks in advance
