Where to Stay
Find your perfect accommodation in Samoa
The matai (village chief) points you to your fale. No walls. Woven pandanus mats on a raised platform, a mosquito net hanging from the rafters, the sound of surf two meters away. A lamp flickers. Outside, the Milky Way runs from horizon to horizon. Samoa invented the beach fale. Nothing else comes close.
Accommodation in Samoa divides cleanly into two worlds: traditional open-sided beach fales along the south coast of Upolu and the coasts of Savai‘i, and modern resorts and hotels in and around Apia. Both have their place. The fales put you inside Samoan village life. The resorts give you pools, air conditioning, and easy logistics.
Savai‘i is quieter, more remote, and increasingly popular for boutique resort stays. Upolu concentrates the most options and is where most visitors base themselves. Either way, Samoa rewards those who stay longer than a week.
📍 Best Places to Stay in Samoa
Samoa’s two main islands offer very different stays. Apia is the urban hub with most hotels. The south coast of Upolu has the best beach fales. Savai‘i has boutique resorts and empty beaches. Choose based on what you want most.
Choose Your Stay Style

💰 Money-Saving Tips
- Beach fales include meals: Most traditional fale operators include breakfast and dinner—the total cost is often less than a hotel room alone
- Book Savai‘i stays in advance: Good boutique resorts on Savai‘i have limited rooms and fill up months ahead in high season (June–September)
- Stay near the ferry terminal: Mulifanua-area hotels save the hour-long drive to Apia if you’re heading straight to Savai‘i
- Shoulder season (March–April, October–November): Lower rates, less rain than peak wet season, still warm
- Ask about package rates: Many resorts include breakfast, transfers, and snorkeling gear in their rates—always ask before assuming
