🛫 How to Get There

Getting to and around Vatican City

✈️ Flying to Rome (for Vatican City)

Main Airports

Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) "Leonardo da Vinci" - Italy's largest airport, 32km from Vatican City. Modern, efficient, well-connected to city via train, bus, and taxi. Main international gateway for Vatican visits.

Secondary Airport:

  • Rome Ciampino Airport (CIA) - Budget airline hub (Ryanair, Wizz Air), 15km from city center. Smaller, easier to navigate, but fewer connections.

💡 Insider Tip

Fiumicino is worth the extra cost for most travelers—direct train to city center, much easier connection to Vatican than Ciampino.

🛂 Visa & Entry Requirements

Vatican City follows Italian visa rules (Schengen Area). US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and many other passport holders can enter visa-free for tourism up to 90 days within any 180-day period. No separate Vatican visa exists—entry to Italy = entry to Vatican.

Schengen visa rules apply—your 90 days cover all Schengen countries combined, not per country. Vatican has no passport control—walk directly from Rome into Vatican City. Check your specific passport's requirements before booking flights.
