Where to Stay

Find your perfect accommodation in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

The wind through the rigging. The clinking of halyards. A crane on the bow lifting your bag from the dock to the catamaran while a barefoot woman pours rum punch into a cup with ice. This is what an arrival on the Grenadines can look like.

But choosing where to stay here is more complicated than on a single-island destination. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is a country of 32 islands. Each one feels like a different country. Bequia runs at the speed of a 1970s village. Mustique is the private domain of about 500 people, half of them celebrities. The Tobago Cays are uninhabited. Saint Vincent itself is a working island that most visitors barely see.

The choice you make — one base, two bases, or a hopping itinerary — shapes everything. The good news: distances are short, ferries are cheap, and the trade winds are kind.

📍 Best Places to Stay in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

Six areas, six very different experiences. Most travellers pick one base for a calm trip or two bases for variety. Picking three or more bases inside a one-week visit usually means too much time on ferries and not enough on the beach.

🏔️ Saint Vincent — Villa Beach & Indian Bay

Best for: First arrival, volcano hike, working island life, lower budgets

The south coast of Saint Vincent — Villa Beach, Indian Bay, Calliaqua, Arnos Vale — holds the country’s working hotel cluster. A 15-minute taxi from Argyle Airport, 5 minutes from Kingstown, and the natural launchpad for the La Soufrière hike. Holiday Inn Express, Mariners Hotel, Sunset Shores. Honest mid-range pricing in a country that goes very expensive very fast. Search Saint Vincent accommodation

⛵️ Bequia — Port Elizabeth & Friendship Bay

Best for: Slow-paced Caribbean, sailors, first-time visitors to the Grenadines

The most popular base in the Grenadines. Port Elizabeth wraps around Admiralty Bay with the Belmont Walkway running south to Princess Margaret Beach. Friendship Bay on the south coast holds Bequia Beach Hotel and The Liming. Boutique guesthouses, gingerbread cottages, and small beachfront resorts. One-hour ferry from Saint Vincent. Search Bequia accommodation

⭐ Mustique — Private Island

Best for: Honeymoons, anniversaries, total privacy at any cost

The whole island is privately owned. Stay at the Cotton House (the only hotel) or rent one of the 100+ private villas through the Mustique Company. Princess Margaret-style villa life with full staff, pool, and sea views. Access by air via Barbados or Saint Vincent. Discreet, beautiful, and not for budget travellers. Visit the Mustique Company

🏣️ Canouan — The Luxury Half, the Quiet Half

Best for: Five-star resort life, golf, or budget apartments alongside

Canouan is two islands in one. The southern half holds Mandarin Oriental and Soho Beach House on a private estate with a Jim Fazio championship golf course. The northern village runs to a much slower rhythm with affordable apartments at Bay View and Atlantic Breeze for under $100 a night. Choose your half. Search Canouan accommodation

⛵ Union Island — Clifton & the Sailing Crowd

Best for: Sailing charters, kitesurfers, southern Grenadines exploration

The southern entry point to the country and the launching base for most yacht charters. Clifton is a real working town with the dock, the airport, the customs office, kitesurfing schools at Happy Island, and a handful of guesthouses. Tenuta Chatham Bay on the leeward coast is a quiet beachfront option with strong reviews. Currently rebuilding from Hurricane Beryl damage (July 2024). Search Union Island accommodation

🏝️ Mayreau & the Tiny Islands

Best for: Disconnecting from everything, Tobago Cays day trips

Mayreau is the smallest inhabited island in the country, with under 300 residents and a single road. Saltwhistle Bay separates the calm Caribbean from the wild Atlantic side. A handful of small resorts (Salt Whistle Bay Resort, Windward Mayreau Resort) plus one or two guesthouses. Palm Island and Petit Saint Vincent are private resort islands at the southern end — entire islands rented as resorts. View Windward Mayreau Resort

💰 Money-Saving Tips

  • Stay on Saint Vincent, day-trip to Bequia: Hotels on the south coast of Saint Vincent are dramatically cheaper than equivalent properties on Bequia. Take the $9.3 morning ferry to Bequia for the day and return at 17:00 — you keep the savings without missing the island.
  • Book directly with small Bequia guesthouses: Several Port Elizabeth guesthouses (Gingerbread Suites, The Sweet Retreat) have their own websites and offer better rates than Booking.com when you book direct via email or WhatsApp.
  • Service charge and VAT: Most Saint Vincent and Grenadines hotels add 10% government tax and 10% service charge on top of the room rate. Confirm whether your quoted rate is “all-in” or “plus tax” before comparing properties.
  • Avoid Christmas–New Year and February: Peak season runs December through April but two windows are particularly extreme — the Christmas–New Year week and February US school break. May, June, October and November offer the same trade winds and lower rates.
  • Long-term rentals: Monthly stays on Bequia and Saint Vincent often cost 30–40% less per night than nightly rates. Negotiate directly with owners on Airbnb or local rental sites.
