Shuttle Bus (Cheapest)
Erak Transporter shuttle bus runs between airport and city center. Journey time: 30 minutes. Ticket: 199 MKD (approx €3.50). Schedule coordinated with flight arrivals/departures. Operating hours: 08:00-20:00.
Taxi
Official airport taxis available. Journey time: 20-25 minutes. Cost: approximately 1,200-1,500 MKD (€20-25) to city center. Agree on price before departure.
Uber/Bolt
Both Uber and Bolt operate in Skopje. Journey time: 20-25 minutes. Cost: approximately 600-900 MKD (€10-15). Cheaper than official taxis.

Bus from neighboring countries—Skopje well-connected to Balkan region. Belgrade (6 hours, €15-25), Sofia (4.5 hours, €15-20), Tirana (7.5 hours, €15-20), Thessaloniki (4 hours, €20-30). Frequent daily departures.
Bus from Western Europe—Overnight buses from Germany, Austria, Switzerland. Munich to Skopje (20+ hours, €80-120). Cheaper than flying but very long journey.
Train service minimal—Limited domestic routes (Skopje-Bitola, Skopje-Ohrid). International night train Belgrade-Thessaloniki via Skopje (seasonal summer service). Generally buses are faster and more reliable.
Land borders: Greece (south), Albania (west), Kosovo (north), Serbia (north), Bulgaria (east). All borders open for tourists. Coach buses cross regularly from all neighbors.
Driving in—E75 European Route runs through North Macedonia north-south. Good road conditions on main highways. Mountainous terrain on some routes.
🛂 Visa & Entry Requirements
North Macedonia is NOT part of the Schengen Area. US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and EU passport holders can enter visa-free for tourism up to 90 days.
Your 90 days in North Macedonia are separate from Schengen days. Check your specific passport's requirements before booking flights. Most Western passports receive visa-free entry.

Buses (Best Option)
Extensive bus network connects all cities and towns. Skopje-Ohrid (3 hours, 300-500 MKD), Skopje-Bitola (3.5 hours, 350-600 MKD). Frequent departures. Book via BalkanViator.com
Trains (Limited)
Limited routes and slow service. Skopje-Bitola and Skopje-Ohrid routes exist but buses are faster. Train travel mostly for scenic experience rather than efficiency.
Domestic Flights
No regular domestic flights. Country is small enough that buses connect everywhere within 3-4 hours maximum.

Buses run frequently in city center. Most routes connect to Macedonia Square. Service generally reliable but can be crowded during rush hours.
🚙 Renting a Car
Recommended for exploring remote mountain villages, monasteries, and countryside at your own pace. Not necessary for Skopje-Ohrid-Bitola triangle.
