🚆 From Auckland Airport to City Center

SkyBus (Fastest & Cheapest)

Express bus runs every 10-15 minutes to city center. Journey time: 45-60 minutes. Ticket: NZ$19 single, NZ$36 return.

Public Bus (Cheaper)

Route 380 to Onehunga, transfer to train. Journey time: 75 minutes. Ticket: NZ$5.

Taxi/Uber

Taxi rank outside terminal. Journey time: 35-45 minutes. Cost: NZ$70-90 to city center.

Ferry between islands—Interislander and Bluebridge operate Cook Strait crossing. Picton to Wellington (3.5 hours, from NZ$55). Scenic, reliable. Book vehicles ahead summer.

Cruise ships—Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch ports. Australian cruises common. Not primary arrival for backpackers.

Domestic flights between cities—Air New Zealand, Jetstar. Auckland-Wellington 1hr, Auckland-Christchurch 1h20. Common for time-pressed travelers.

No land borders—New Zealand is isolated islands. Flying or sailing only options. Plan accordingly.

Long-distance flights—24+ hours from Europe, 12-14 hours from USA, 3-4 hours from Australia. Jet lag inevitable. Plan recovery days.

🛂 Visa & Entry Requirements

New Zealand requires NZeTA (electronic travel authority) for visa-waiver countries. US, Canada, UK, EU passport holders can visit up to 90 days. Apply online before travel (NZ$23).
