Main beach 25km long—soft sand, left-hand point break (beginner-friendly), beach bars, hammocks, volleyball. Peak season December-March but year-round works.

Lima's urban beaches

Miraflores beaches (Waikiki, Makaha, Redondo) offer urban convenience—metro access, cliffside parks above, surf breaks, paragliding launch points.

Water cooler (15-18°C summer, 14-16°C winter)—wetsuit recommended. Locals swim regardless. Foreign visitors need mental preparation.

Costa Verde—cliff-side road connecting beaches. Running/cycling path, ocean views, beach clubs, sunset spots. Larcomar shopping center overlooks ocean.

Barranco beaches—La Herradura (surf break), La Chira (locals' spot). Less touristy than Miraflores. Artists, surfers, authentic Lima beach culture.

Best months: December-March (sun, warmth, less garúa fog). June-October often foggy—locals call it garúa. Gray, cool, not ideal beach weather.

Paracas and Islas Ballestas

Paracas National Reserve features red beaches (iron oxide sand), desert coastline, sea lion colonies, Andean condors. Stunning landscapes, not swimming beaches.

Islas Ballestas boat tours (S/50-80, 2 hours) show sea lions, Humboldt penguins, seabirds. "Peru's Galápagos" nickname exaggerates but wildlife real.

Paracas town has swimming beaches—water cold (15-17°C) but calmer than open coast. Wind constant—kitesurfers love it, sunbathers hate it.

Base for Huacachina (1 hour inland)—desert oasis with lagoon, sandboarding, dune buggy rides. Combine beach + desert in 2-3 days.
