🚋 Local Transportation in Malé
Malé is tiny (2km across) and walkable. Hulhumalé (airport area) has buses and taxis.
Getting Around

Most visitors transit through airport directly to resorts—minimal time in Malé unless specifically visiting.
🚙 Renting Vehicles
Cars not practical—most islands are tiny. Bicycles and scooters available on larger local islands.
Alternative Transport
- Bicycle rentals on local islands: $5-10 per day
- Scooter rentals on larger islands (Hulhumalé): $15-25 per day
- Walking is standard—most resort islands take 10-20 minutes to circle

- No cars on resort islands by design
⚠️ Island Reality
The Maldives is 99% ocean. Transportation is by boat, not car. Plan accordingly. Your resort handles all transport logistics.
