Main Airport

Luxembourg Airport (LUX) / Findel - Luxembourg's only international airport, 6km from the city center. Compact, efficient, and extremely well-connected to the city via bus and tram.

Airlines: Luxair (national carrier), Lufthansa, KLM, British Airways, easyJet, Ryanair serve Luxembourg. Direct flights from major European cities—London, Paris, Frankfurt, Brussels, Amsterdam. No long-haul intercontinental flights.

💡 Insider Tip

Luxembourg is tiny. Flying to nearby Frankfurt, Brussels, or Paris and taking the train can be cheaper. Brussels to Luxembourg is 2.5 hours by train, Paris 2 hours by TGV.

🚊 From Airport to City Center

Tram (Newest & Best)

Tram extension to airport opened March 2025. Direct tram from Findel Airport stop to Luxembourg City center. Journey time: 25 minutes. Ticket: FREE (public transport free nationwide).

Bus (Still Available)

Bus lines 16 and 29 run every 10-15 minutes between airport and city center via Luxembourg Central Station. Journey time: 25-30 minutes. Ticket: FREE.

Taxi

Taxis available at arrivals. Journey time: 15-20 minutes. Cost: €25-35 to city center. Metered, no fixed price.

🚆 Other Ways In

Train from Brussels—2.5 hours, hourly InterCity trains (SNCB/NMBS). Direct to Luxembourg Central Station. Scenic route through Ardennes. Popular option from Brussels Airport.

Train from Paris—2 hours by TGV (high-speed). Comfortable, city center to city center. Often cheaper than flying when you factor in airport time.

Train from Trier/Germany—Regional line L30 connects Luxembourg-Wasserbillig-Trier (1 hour). Onward connections to Koblenz, Cologne. Good option from Germany.

Train from Strasbourg—TGV connections via eastern France. Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier also connected via TGV network.

Driving—Luxembourg sits between Belgium, France, and Germany. Well-connected motorways from all sides. Compact (1 hour to cross entire country). Parking expensive in city center.

🛂 Visa & Entry Requirements

Luxembourg is part of the Schengen Area. US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and many other passport holders can enter visa-free for tourism up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

Schengen visa rules apply—your 90 days cover all Schengen countries combined, not per country. Check your specific passport's requirements before booking flights.

🚊 Getting Around Luxembourg

Free Public Transport (Nationwide!)

Luxembourg offers free public transport for everyone—the first country globally to do so. All trains, trams, and buses within Luxembourg are free (2nd class). No tickets needed. Just board. First class train tickets still require payment.

Trains (CFL)

CFL (Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois) operates efficient trains connecting Luxembourg City to Esch-sur-Alzette, Ettelbruck, and other towns. Free within Luxembourg. Book international trains at cfl.lu

Buses

Extensive bus network (RGTR) covering areas trains don't reach. Essential for reaching Vianden, Mullerthal, and remote villages. All free.

Tram (Luxembourg City)

Modern tram connecting city center, Kirchberg (EU quarter), and airport. Clean, frequent, punctual. Free.

🎫 Travel Pass Tip

You don't need a pass—transport is free! Just use the CFL mobile app or Mobiliteit.lu app to check schedules and plan routes.

🚙 Renting a Car

Recommended for exploring Mullerthal trails, Moselle Valley vineyards, and countryside at your own pace. Not necessary for Luxembourg City (excellent public transport).
