Tiger Leaping Gorge—classic Chinese trek
Tiger Leaping Gorge in Yunnan is China's most famous trek—26km along Yangtze gorge, 2,000m deep, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (5,596m) towering above.
Two-day itinerary standard—hike upper trail with views, sleep in guesthouse halfway (Tea Horse or Halfway Guesthouse), finish next day.
Moderate difficulty—steep sections, narrow paths, altitude 2,500m. Fit hikers fine. Proper hiking shoes essential. Trekking poles help.
Best seasons: April-May (flowers blooming), September-October (clear skies). June-August brings landslide risk from rain. Winter cold but clear.
