Visibility averages 30+ meters year-round. Water temperature 23–28°C depending on season. Warm, clear, pristine conditions. World-class diving without the development or crowds.

Yanbu is Saudi Arabia's scuba capital—northern Red Sea gateway, dive operators, equipment rental, PADI courses. Seven Sisters site famous for hammerhead sharks, colorful coral walls, drift diving.

Jeddah diving offers easier access from major city. Wreck dives available including historic Iona shipwreck (pre-1930). Shore diving and boat diving both possible.

Yanbu—Red Sea dive capital

Yanbu sits on northern Red Sea coast, 350km from Jeddah. Purpose-built port city but dive base atmosphere. Multiple dive operators, equipment shops, easy reef access.

Seven Sisters dive site is highlight—vertical coral walls descending 40+ meters, hammerheads, reef sharks, massive schools of fish. Strong currents mean drift diving experience required.

Other Yanbu sites: The Twins (twin pinnacles), Frond Reef (shallow coral gardens), The Canyon (swim-through formations). Something for all levels—beginner to technical.

Yanbu Beach offers swimming, snorkeling from shore. Cleaner, quieter than resort beaches elsewhere. Hotels near water available in city center. Good base for multi-day diving trips.

Best time: November-March for comfortable weather. June–September brutally hot on land (4°C+) but underwater temperatures perfect. Early mornings best for beach activities summer.

Jeddah Corniche and coast

Jeddah's Corniche stretches 30+ km along Red Sea. Modern waterfront promenade, King Fahd's Fountain (world's tallest at 312m), cafes, restaurants, beach access points.

North Corniche beaches more developed—facilities, lifeguards, family-friendly. South Corniche quieter, less maintained but more authentic local atmosphere.

Diving from Jeddah easier logistics than Yanbu—stay in city, day-trip to dive sites. Operators run boat trips to offshore reefs. Shore diving possible at several locations.

Silver Sands Beach north of Jeddah offers resort-style facilities—restaurants, water sports, clean beaches. More commercial but convenient. Modest dress code relaxed at resort beaches.

Corniche evening strolls popular with locals—sunset views, seafood restaurants, fountain shows. Modest dress still required (no swimwear outside designated beach areas).

Red Sea Project—future luxury

Massive tourism development underway along Red Sea coast between Yanbu and Umluj. 28,000 sq km area designated for luxury eco-resorts, marinas, nature reserves.

First resorts opening 2024–2026. Shura Island features 11 low-rise luxury properties designed by international architects. Emphasis on environmental protection, coral restoration, sustainable tourism.

AMAALA Cultural Village planned for arts, wellness, sports experiences. Triple Bay Marina for yacht tourism. Extensive diving, snorkeling, water sports infrastructure planned.

Current access limited—permits required. Once opened, this becomes major global beach destination. For now, Yanbu and Jeddah offer accessible Red Sea experiences.

  • 🏖️ Beach dress codes strict outside designated resort areas—women cover shoulders/knees even on public beaches. Swimwear only when actually in water at permitted beaches.
